A deciduous bulb with long, strap-like leaves.  The scented flowers are carried on a long purplish-red and green stalk above the leaves.   They are large, trumpet-shaped and borne in clusters of 3-6.  The flowers are available in various colours ranging from white, pink and red.

This popular plant is available in several hybrid varieties.

FLOWERS:
The scented, trumpet-shaped flowers are carried on a long green stem. Up to twelve flowers are borne in a cluster on the tip of the flowering stem. The flowers are 10cm long and are white, pink or red. Each flower has a long upturned style amongst a group of large curved anthers that protrude from the plant. The anthers are black and shiny at first, but split open to reveal masses of sticky white pollen.
FOLIAGE:
The deciduous leaves are long, mid-green and strap-shaped.

CULTIVATION:
Easy to grow from seed or by dividing bulbs.
