A small tree or shrub wiht a somewhat drooping crown of glossy light-green foliage. It has a distinctive smooth creamy-tan bark. The leaves are ovate, hairy when young, becoming shiny when mature. The white flowers are bell-shaped, sweetly scented and are borne on slender stalks. The fruit is a spherical fleshy berry that ripens to orange.
