FRUITING TIME:   J F M A M J J A S O N D
A shrub or small tree that tends to be multi-stemmed from the base with a brown bark. The branchlets are purplish-red and the leaf stalks have a reddish colour. The leaves have a finely toothed margin and are leathery, glossy dark green above and paler beneath.
It bears hanging clusters of very small fragrant flowers from mid-winter to spring. The fruits are very small brown woody capsules that open to release black seeds in early summer.
NATURAL HABITAT & DISTRIBUTION:
Forest margins and stream banks.
Low maintenance. Prune only when necessary.
A lovely screening plant for a forest garden.
