Formerly known as Acacia polyacantha, this is a large, deciduous tree with a pale and flaky bark. It has slender hooked prickles which are pale to dark brown and are found in pairs just below each node. Leaves have 13-40 pairs of pinnae, each bearing 26-66 pairs of leaflets. The flowers are borne on a white spike, 12cm long. The fruit is a brown, hairless, straight, flat pod 7-18cm long.
