Cryptocarya latifolia
DESCRIPTION
An evergreen tree with a dense crown. The brak is grey-brown, smooth with fine vertical fissures. The leaves are leathery, dark green with fine hairs above and greenish brown below. The white flowers are small and borne in branched sprays. The spherical fruit ripens to black.

This information is invaluable. I live in KZN. And have Cryptocarya latifolia in my garden. It seeds profusely. And I have often wondered what medicinal value the tree might have.
The reason I looked it up is because of the seeds. They have a very delicate perfume.
I have masses of seedlings growing. So will get on with packeting them.
My original tree is a volunteer from bird droppings I think.

Baie dankie vir die info. Ek het 5 eksemplare van hierdie boom gebruik (in Durbanville) om `n heining te vorm by `n kliënt omdat ek nie Ilex mitis kon vind nie. Ek`s nuuskierig om te sien hoe dit gaan reageer om geknip te word maar al die tekens is daar dat dit nes Ilex mitis kompak sal groei om privaatheid te bied teen die bure.
