   Is there any reason why you’d like to keep it in a pot? Most plants, including Elegia tectorum, generally do not fare well in containers as there is limited space for their roots.

   As Elegia tectorum grows up to 1.5m tall, if you are planning to keep it in a container, it would be best to transfer it to a pot at least 60cm tall x 60cm wide.

2. We’ve just bought a Eligia tectonam. It needs re potting. The garden centre said to transfer it into a 5ltr pot but can we go bigger to save disturbing it again. Its hanging over the pot at the moment so a bit top heavy. And is it best in compost or top soil. Also how often do we water it. Thanks in advance.

   My Afrikaans is not great, but I understand you’re looking for seeds for Elegia tectorum to grow around your swan and geese dams.

   You’d get faster and more successful results by growing the plants from seedlings sourced from your local nursery. However, there are seed suppliers available online who specilaise in these plants.

   Ek het n klompie swane en gans damme ek wil baie graag van doe kaapse dekriet laat groei kan ek dalk saad iewers kry. Werk dit as jy die raad plant..

   Chondorpetalum tectorum is quite hardy though it tends to prefer moist conditions.

   Check the situation in your desired planting position and perhaps start with a couple of plants first.

6. Can I plant a Kaapse dekriet in Bloemfontein ? Will it survive ?

   Do not cut back the entire plant back as it will take a long time to recover and if done too severely, may kill the plant. Rather remove any dead stems from the outside of the plant.

8. Ek het hulp nodig asb. Ons woon in Struisbaai en het Kaapse dekriet in ons erf. Ons wil dit graag afsny sodat daar nuwe takkies kan uitgroei maar is onseker wanneer dit hul snytyd is.
